How Birth Control Pills Work?

One type of contraception is Birth control pills which are preventing pregnancy. It contains ovulation-suppressing hormones. Estrogen and progestin are included in the “Combined Pill” which is the most effective type of contraception.

Estrogen and progestin suppress fertilization by interfering with the monthly periods of a woman. The monthly periods occur in the women’s body for the preparation of pregnancy. Each month Ovulation process has happened with the women’s body (an egg is released from her ovary). At the same time, the uterine lining thickens in preparation for pregnancy. If fertilization is not carried out, the uterine lining is removed during monthly periods, and the cycle going to be closed. Multiple hormones released by the brain, pituitary gland, and ovaries regulate the menstrual cycle.

Two hormones FSH (Follicle-stimulating hormone) and LH (Luteinizing hormone) necessary for ovulation.

FSH (Follicle-stimulating hormone)  kicks off the cycle by pushing immature stages to grow and produce a mature egg; then LH (Luteinizing hormone) is in control of the egg's release from the ovary - the ovulation event.

After ovulation in the second part of the cycle, two additional hormones Estrogen and Progesterone, are at high levels, FSH and LH have restricted them.    Two hormones FSH (Follicle-stimulating hormone)  and LH (Luteinizing hormone) necessary for ovulation.

Till 3 weeks the Pills are taken on every day, followed by one week of sugar pills that’s hormones free tablets. Estrogen and Progesterone levels fall down During this sugar pills week. Causing or phantom periods. Although the bleeding is a handy indicator that implantation did not occur, it is not necessary for birth control. In reality, there are products that can be used indefinitely.

There are mini-pills that contain just progestin for Breast-Feeding women or those who cannot tolerate estrogen, when it comes to preventing ovulation, they aren't as successful as combined pills, their action is based on progestin's capacity to stimulate the production of thick cervical mucus that blocks sperm entrance.
